Founder and Managing Principal

Susan Crain, CCNL

When asked what she does best, clients often say that Susan excels at taking the complex and making it simple. She injects a fresh perspective into almost any conversation, and her leadership style is known to be clear, direct, and energizing. Susan has worked with a wide variety of emerging organizations in the areas of marketing communications, development, and strategic planning. Susan started her first consultancy, a virtual marketing agency that focused on start-ups and technology companies, before she turned 30. Before that, she was employed at an ad agency, a construction information company, several healthcare start-ups, and global telecommunications firm. It was through these six jobs in eight years that she learned that she quickly becomes restless after tackling the initial problem-solving and planning phases. So she turned that energy and strategic focus into her life’s work. As the founder and managing principal of Crainium, her passion is working with disruptive organizations and purpose-driven nonprofits to change the world. Her sweet spot is leading a team through a challenging discussion or problem-solving session—usually at a whiteboard or flipchart with a marker in her hand. She is responsible for leading client engagements and ensuring client satisfaction. Most often, her work centers on clearly defining the problem and setting goals, assembling a highly competent team, and getting out of their way. Susan splits her time between Georgia’s mountains and its coast. When not spending time with her husband and dog, she hikes, kayaks, reads, and occasionally, trains for a half-marathon.
